Replace the dashcam SD card

SD cards could become corrupted, damaging data or preventing overwriting with additional data. This situation would require replacing the SD card.

Prior to replacing SD cards, please review our SD card policy.

The following article goes through the steps to accomplish this task:

  1. Power off the dashcam

  2. Remove the SD card

  3. Insert a new SD card

  4. Power on the dashcam

  5. Format the new SD card

  6. Download data to a storage device

Power off the dashcam

To power off the dashcam:

  1. When you are in the parked vehicle with the parking brake on, the ignition on, and the door closed, press the touchscreen of the dashcam to view the PIN screen.

  2. Enter the default PIN 3333 to unlock the dashcam for the first time, or your own PIN subsequently.

    The screen unlocks and the menu appears.

  3. Press Settings.

  4. Scroll down and press Power Off.

    A confirmation window pops up.

  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to first disconnect the power cable, and then press OK on the screen to power off the dashcam.

    Important

    Complete this step in order to prevent the dashcam from restarting. If the dashcam does restart, repeat this step to avoid draining the battery.

    If a tamper-proof case is installed on the dashcam, remove it before disconnecting the power cable.

Remove the SD card

To remove the dashcam SD card:

  1. Use the special screwdriver included in the box when you purchased the dashcam to remove the safety screws that lock the protective cover over the SIM and SD card slots.

    Note

    A magnet under the cover is used for detection. When the protective cover is opened, a tamper event is triggered.

  2. Remove the SD card by gently pressing on it and releasing it. It should pop out.

    Notice

    Do not discard the old SD card. It will be used in a later step to back up video data, see Download data.

Insert a new SD card

Insert a new SD card into the SD card slot of the dashcam.

Power on the dashcam

Reconnect the power cable to power on the dashcam.

Format the new SD card

To format the new SD card:

  1. A prompt pops up on the dashcam screen, requesting permission to format the SD card.

  2. Press Yes.

    A message on the dashcam screen states the external storage was formatted successfully.

  3. Enter the default PIN 3333 to unlock the dashcam for the first time, or your own PIN subsequently.

    The screen unlocks and the menu can be viewed.

  4. Press Settings.

  5. Scroll down to Power Off.

    Note

    The following steps are required to restart the dashcam. It is important to keep the plug in the dashcam for it to restart.

  6. Press Power Off and then OK. Do not remove the plug as instructed by the message on the screen.

    The device restarts.

  7. Check for the red recording light hardware-icon_dashcamRecording2.png at the bottom of the screen to verify the SD card is working.

  8. Place the protective cover over the SD and SIM card slots.

  9. Screw the cover into place using the safety screws and special screwdriver.

Download data

To download data from the old SD card to a storage device:

  1. Connect the SD card to a computer, or other storage device. It should detect the SD card automatically.

  2. Copy the files to the storage device.
