Unfamiliar Driver Detection (Restricted Beta Release)

TAK-413

BIOMETRIC NOTICE: When Driver Change Detection is enabled, the Lytx solution collects, uses, stores and discloses Biometric Information for the purpose of providing and improving the Driver Change Detection functionality. For more information, see Lytx’s Biometric Information Privacy Policy available at https://www.lytx.com/legal/biometric-information-privacy-policy . As a reseller or user of the Lytx solution, you have agreed to comply with any applicable data protection and privacy laws, such as laws requiring notice and consent. Prior to enabling this feature, Lytx requires execution of an acknowledgment of your commitment to comply with any applicable data protection and privacy laws, such as laws requiring notice and consent for the processing of biometric information by service providers.

This feature enhances fleet security by automatically identifying and alerting administrators when a driver who is not recognized in the fleet's approved list drives a vehicle. It is a critical component for detecting unauthorized usage, enforcing policy, and responding quickly to potential security risks like auto theft, hijacking, or unauthorized driver swaps.

The Album Management workflow automates the process of capturing and verifying driver identities across your fleet. By synchronizing trip data with administrative review tools, the system streamlines how Fleet Managers audit driver profiles, categorize authorization levels, and maintain secure data retention standards.

Note: Resellers cannot enable the enable/disable functionality until we have an acknowledgment on file.

Driver Identification And Album Management Workflow

Note:  In the event that an individual drives vehicles assigned to more than one group, a Fleet Manager may view in-cab images in the album from vehicles in a group that the Fleet Manager is not authorized to access. Such access is limited to the images collected for purposes of this feature and does not grant general access to video or events from the device assigned to a different group.

  • Setup: Enable or disable Album Management in Organization Settings. Once on, images are collected automatically during trips.

  • Daily Sync: New drivers appear in the Pending Review panel once a day.

  • Management:It is the Fleet Manager's responsibility to tag these as Familiar (authorized) or Unfamiliar (unauthorized).

  • Direct Tagging: You can update a driver’s status via the Event Review tab by selecting the status on the event details.

  • Event Logic: Events trigger when a new driver is detected (status: Pending) or an unauthorized driver (status: Unfamiliar).

  • Requirements: Events only generate if the album has existing images and the event is enabled in the device settings.

  • Retention: Images are deleted after one year of inactivity or immediately if the album is deleted.

Dynamic Adjust for Regional Restrictions for AI-14 (BETA)

KING-1540

Note

Lytx does not guarantee that Dynamic Adjust for Regional Restrictions will be error-free, or that Lytx equipment and services will be compliant with the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. All customers using Lytx technology, whether enabling or disabling Dynamic Adjust for Regional Restrictions, are advised to consult with their own legal counsel regarding legal compliance in the jurisdictions where they operate, including, without limitation, requirements of applicable privacy laws.

This feature provides an automated, location-aware mechanism that dynamically adjusts device functionality when operating within a region with restrictions (e.g., Illinois) as a tool to support compliance needs, while maintaining seamless operations for fleet operators.

  • Support for Regional Compliance When the system detects a vehicle entering a restricted region (such as Illinois), it proactively modifies device functionality. This feature helps customers choose how best to protect their fleets in Illinois, where there has been a surge in class action lawsuits. When the system detects a vehicle entering a restricted region (such as Illinois), it proactively modifies device functionality.

  • Intelligent Geofencing (Dynamic Adjust) This provides Zero-Touch Protection powered by GPS geofencing technology. The system is designed to automatically detect restricted zones and deactivate in-cab MV+AI features upon entry. Custom settings are then restored once the system detects the vehicle has exited the area, helping to helping to address operational and compliance needs without requiring manual driver intervention.

  • Centralized Consent Management •  This tool helps maintain a clear audit trail for your fleet. You can easily view and manage settings across your organization, which helps you verify that AI features are active only in areas where you have authorized their use.

Note

GPS-based features are subject to signal availability and accuracy, and users remain responsible for their own legal compliance and driver consent requirements.

Known issues

The following table lists the current known issues:

At kb.surfsight.net some tables are poorly formatted and may cause difficulty in reading them. We're currently working on overhauling our knowledge base and planning this fix as part of the changes. In the interim, partner resellers can refer to these PDFs in case they need a different format for better legibility.

SUR-3605

Live video may sometimes flash continuously while streaming.

We are monitoring this issue and evaluating possible solutions.

SUR-5044

Locked dashcams' event settings are not set to off by default. They continue to send video to the cloud using data from the mobile network for any events configured with video attached.

Work-around: Before locking a dashcam, change all of its event settings to off.

SUR-6123

Customers can set the minimum speed set the minimum speed for MVAI events creation between 0 and 180 kmh. However, if you set speed lower than 5 kmh, the events will not be created. (Due to hardware limitations, we are investigating possible solutions.)
