Install auxiliary cameras at different spots of the vehicle to enable live video and recording of additional perspectives during trips. Connect auxiliary cameras to the ignition power. We have tested pairing up to four auxiliary cameras with each dashcam.
This article describes how to:
Before installing an auxiliary camera, make sure you have all the necessary items and materials.
You can purchase the following items using the order form:
-
auxiliary cameras, which come with a power cable and:
-
for wrap-mount (side) cameras: hose clamps, large and small, and silicone pads
-
for flush-mount (rear) cameras: mounting brackets
-
-
for wired cameras: M12/RJ45 network extension cables, either five or twenty meters in length
You will need additional items that are not supplied by Surfsight® :
-
for wired cameras: a router, with Wi-Fi support and enough LAN ports for the number of auxiliary cameras being installed, that can use 9-28 VDC input voltage
Tip
Any router with the above requirements should work. We have tested the following routers and found them compatible with our auxiliary cameras:
We recommend using a rugged router, as it will be installed in a dirty and vibrating environment. When using a non-rugged router, wire the power through a relay to provide stabilized voltage.
-
for wired cameras: a Phillips screwdriver
-
for flush-mount (rear) cameras: screws, for attaching the mounting bracket to the vehicle
-
for wrap-mount (side) cameras: a flat head screwdriver, to tighten screws on the hose clamps
-
we also recommend that you protect any connections made outside of the vehicle using adhesive lined heat shrink
