Important
Leave 12.5 cm (4.9 in) to the right of the dashcam to allow room to insert it into the mounting bracket.
-
Wipe the area of the windshield where you plan to place the Surfsight® dashcam with an alcohol wipe and allow to air dry.
If the windshield is dirty enough that an alcohol wipe is not enough:
-
Spray the area of the windshield where you plan to place the Surfsight® dashcam with isopropyl alcohol.
-
Dry the area with a clean cloth.
-
Let the area air dry.
-
Wipe the area with an alcohol wipe and allow to air dry.
-
-
Remove the Surfsight® dashcam from the mounting bracket.
-
Remove the 3M adhesive tape cover, and mount the mounting bracket to the windshield.
For best results with the mounting bracket:
-
Once the 3M adhesive tape cover is removed, do not leave it exposed to the air for a long period of time. Remove the cover right before applying it to the windshield.
-
Roll the mounting bracket onto the windshield, applying firm pressure uniformly across the bracket once positioned on the windshield.
-
Make sure there are no large air bubbles between the mounting bracket and windshield. Apply pressure to remove any bubbles.
-
Leave the mounting bracket attached to the windshield for at least ten minutes before attaching the Surfsight® dashcam.
-
The temperature in the vehicle should be at least 10°C (50°F) and should not be too humid. Ideally, the temperature should be between 21-38°C (70-100°F).
-
Mount the bracket in a location with minimal curvature.
-
-
After ten minutes, put the Surfsight® dashcam in the mounting bracket.
-
Run the power cable from the connection point up the A-pillar to the mounting area. Make sure the cable is clear of any sharp edges or moving parts, and can't get pinched in a door jamb.
Caution
You may need to remove the window and door trim to run the cable underneath. These typically snap on and off using special clips. In vehicles with side and curtain airbags, the clips are often one-time use and may need to be replaced after removal. Refer to the vehicle service manual for information.
-
If the vehicle has airbags, secure the cable away from the airbags and their operational deployment paths. Do not place the cable in front of any air bags or secured to them.
-
Put heat shrink around the device power connector and use a heat source to secure the connection.
-
Turn on the vehicle and check that the Surfsight® dashcam turns on to verify the installation was done correctly.
-
Secure the cable with cable ties every 30 cm (12 inches).
