Pre-Installation Warnings

Warning

Only a properly qualified technician should install and support the Surfsight device(s). Any electrical work should be performed only by an MECP, IMI, FITAS, ATA -certified or equivalent technician with an expertise in installing and troubleshooting advanced vehicle on-board components including multiplexed circuits. Lytx, Inc. disclaims all responsibility for any damages arising from improper installation and maintenance of the Surfsight device(s).

Warning

The Surfsight®dashcam device(s) interfaces with the vehicle’s electrical systems. However, it should not interfere with any of the vehicle’s electrical or operating systems. Lytx, Inc. disclaims all responsibility for any damages arising from improper installation and maintenance of the device(s).

Warning

Any electrical work on Electrically propelled vehicle(s) should be performed only by a suitably trained and qualified automotive technician to international level 1 EV qualification applicable to your country/ region/ state. Lytx, Inc. disclaims all responsibility for any damages arising from improper installation and maintenance of the Surfsight device(s).

Warning

Pre-Installation/ Pre-Maintenance Checks:

  • Before beginning the installation, turn the vehicle on. Verify that no Check Engine lights, error codes, or warnings appear on the gauge console, dashboard, or vehicle display. It may be necessary to cycle through displayed messages or screens to verify.

  • Check the windscreen (windshield) condition for cracks and chips, if any are present obtain confirmation from the client/ end user prior to installing.

  • Check exterior body for damage and report prior to starting any work.

  • Check interior of vehicle for damage and hygiene and report any finding before starting work.

  • Check interior of vehicle for damage and hygiene and report any finding before starting work.

  • For installations with OBD-II network connections: The Surfsight device cannot be connected to the OBD-II network if another third-party device is also connected to the same network. To proceed with the installation, verify that no other third-party devices are connected to the OBD-II diagnostic port.

  • Report any faults/ damage to the site contact and or partner/ manager before continuing.

Warning

Park the vehicle on a level surface before beginning any maintenance or installation. Block the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving. Never work under a vehicle supported only by jacks as jacks can slip and fall over.

Warning

All wires that carry electrical current to the Lytx device(s) must be fused. Failure to fuse the constant power wire can lead to serious personal injury and/or property damage. If any wire or cables containing fuse/fuse box need to be cut or otherwise shortened or extended, always be certain to replace such fuses/fuse box or install new ones.

Warning

Never wire the Surfsight device(s) in a manner that shares a connection with another aftermarket product in the vehicle. Independent connections should always be used.

Warning

Only approved wire connection methods are recommended. Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s service manual to determine if sealing crimp connections, Add-A-Fuse (Add-A-Circuit), sealing butt connections, or OEM connections to open connection ports are approved. Never use plier tap products such as insulation displacement connectors (i.e. ScotchLoc connectors) when installing the Surfsight device(s) (unless mandated by the vehicle manufacture i.e., BMW).

Warning

Wire Protection: Take all necessary measures to protect all wire runs through a metal surface with a grommet or other device and all wire runs outside the vehicle cab with a protective conduit. Always protect against wire fatigue and harness abrasion by properly attaching wires at closely spaced intervals, while avoiding contact with sharp edges or doing anything else that might result in exposed wires. All wires should be secured with zip/ cable tie wraps at least every one foot (12”/30 cm/300 mm) or less. Do not over-tighten any zip/ cable tie wraps.

EXPLOSION HAZARD: Do not disconnect equipment unless power has been removed and the area is known to be non-hazardous. Comply with all Electrically propelled/ non-Internal Combustion Engine vehicle(s). Health and Safety regulation within countries/regions/jurisdictions. Any electrical work on Electrically propelled vehicle(s) should be performed only by a suitably trained and qualified automotive technician to international level 1 EV qualification applicable to your country/ region/ state. Lytx, Inc. disclaims all responsibility for any damages arising from improper installation and maintenance of the Surfsight device(s).

Warning

Make certain that neither the wiring cables nor your installation activities interfere with any airbag-related mechanisms or otherwise risks affecting airbag deployment. Consult the vehicle manufacturer for the location of any airbag sensors, systems, and restrictions that may apply.

Caution

You may need to remove the window and door trim to route the cable underneath. These typically snap on and off using special clips. In vehicles with side and curtain airbags, the clips are often one-time use and may need to be replaced after removal. Please refer to the vehicle service manual for information

Warning

Post-Installation/ Post-Maintenance Checks:

  • Record/ IMEI/Vehicle Registration/ Vehicle Identification number (VIN)/ ADAS Measurements

  • Photograph mounted location with windshield furniture/ sun visor/blind in both open and closed.

  • Check exterior body for damage and report prior to starting any work.

  • Check interior of vehicle for damage and hygiene and report any finding before starting work.

  • If any Check Engine lights, error codes, or warnings appear, identify the issue triggering such warnings and remedy such issue(s) prior to leaving vehicle and report to Client and supplier.

  • For installations with OBD-II network connections: The Surfsight device cannot be connected to the OBD-II network if another third-party device is also connected to the same network. To proceed with the installation, verify that no other third-party devices are connected to the OBD-II diagnostic port.

  • Hand back keys.

  • Report completed job to site contact and partner.
