Connecting Wi-Fi Surfsight auxiliary cameras to the AI-12

Prerequisites: 

  • Make sure the  Surfsight auxiliary camera(s) are connected to power

  • Make sure the AI-12 is online.

    • Use any device that connects to Wi-Fi, such as a phone or tablet, to check that the AI-12 Dash camera can be found in available Wi-Fi networks (it appears as DASH-XXXX). 

  • Use any device that connects to Wi-Fi, such as a phone or tablet, to check that the camera can find the available Wi-Fi networks (it appears as AuxCamera XXXXXX). 

Important

Wi-Fi Surfsight auxiliary cameras are able to communicate with the AI-12 camera.

Associate the Surfsight auxiliary cameras to a main dashcam

When you are in the parked vehicle with the parking brake on, the ignition on, and the door closed, press the touchscreen of the dashcam to view the PIN screen. 

Enter the default PIN 3333 to unlock the dashcam for the first time, or your admin PIN.

The screen unlocks and the menu appears:

Touch Settings.

Touch Wi-Fi

Touch the Mobile Hotspot button to toggle it to On

Return to the Settings menu. 

Scroll down and press Add Cameras

The dashcam searches for available, unpaired auxiliary cameras. This can take a minute (60 seconds).

A snapshot from the auxiliary camera appears on the screen. If it is the auxiliary camera you want to pair with the dashcam, press YES

Note

If it is not the auxiliary camera you want to pair with, press NO. The dash cam continues to search for available, unpaired cameras.

The auxiliary camera is paired to the dashcam. This can take a minute (60 seconds).

Confirm Wi-Fi Auxiliary Camera connection to AI-12

To confirm that the auxiliary camera paired successfully, scroll down, and press More Info

From this screen, you can see all the auxiliary cameras that are connected to your dashcam.

Important

The More Info screen does not automatically refresh when new auxiliary cameras are paired to the dashcam. If any auxiliary cameras do not appear on the screen, exit the More Info screen, wait about a minute to make sure they have all reconnected, and re-enter. The added auxiliary cameras should appear.

Note

If there is any trouble finding the Surfsight auxiliary cameras, ensure that the AI-12 and auxiliary camera are connected to the hotspot and restart the Surfsight auxiliary cameras via the auxiliary camera re-set button. If the Surfsight auxiliary cameras still can't be found, verify that the Surfsight auxiliary cameras is turned on and contact support.

Note

To find the Surfsight AI-12 dashcam hotspot name and password you can also turn on the AI-12 dashcam. Click Settings and then Wi-Fi. Turn on Mobile Hotspot. The Wi-Fi network name and the Wi-Fi password should appear.

Warning

Post-Installation/ Post-Maintenance Check: Before leaving the installation, turn the vehicle on. Verify that no Check Engine lights, error codes, or warnings appear on the gauge console, dashboard, or vehicle display. It may be necessary to cycle through displayed messages or screens to verify.

  • Record/ IMEI/ Surfsight auxiliary camera(s) serial number/Vehicle Registration/ Vehicle Identification number (VIN)

  • Photograph mounted location with windshield furniture/ sun visor/blind in both open and closed positions.

  • Check exterior body for damage and report prior to starting any work.

  • Check interior of vehicle for damage and hygiene and report any finding before starting work.

  • If any Check Engine lights, error codes, or warnings appear, identify the issue triggering such warnings and remedy such issue(s) prior to leaving vehicle and report to Client and supplier.

Auxiliary camera reset button

The reset button is located on the side of the camera(s) lens ball. To access it, loosen the two screws on the lower camera mount to move the ball around, Arrows point to the reset button.

The rest button has two settings.

  1. Holding down the reset button for over 3 seconds, not longer than 8 seconds and release the button. Only the auxiliary camera will reboot.

  2. Holding down the reset button for over 10 seconds release the button. Only the auxiliary camera will re-boot and reset all settings.
